The most interesting part about this board is obviously the Ethernet interface, the board can be used as standalone with Arduino code, C, or micro-python.The Visual studio instructions to use CMake and compile C for the board were not clear, I couldn't get it to work after a few hours and I'm usually good with this stuff, the instructions on the manufacturer page are just not enough.I got the Arduino environment to work, the included examples are enough to get started, the board is however not capable of much without interfacing with a raspberry pi, you can get some basic TCP/IP functionalities to work, or maybe use the IOT MQTT protocol. The board is also not pre soldered, so you'll need to do some work to use the GPIOs. Other than that the general quality is good, with a USB type and the 100/10mbps Ethernet interface. So to sum it up, this board is probably a good option if it's the missing piece in your DIY IOT project. But if you're just seeing what's out there to get started, there are plenty of options with Ethernet interfaces, more RAM and CPU, and much less painful "getting started" guides.

The Waveshare RP2040-ETH mini boasts a remarkably compact design. Like most Waveshare boards thewiki provides a thorough guide on potential installations, making the setup process straightforward. I found setting up Thonny and MicroPython quite simple using the guide. The inclusion of USB-C for power is a modern feature that ensures compatibility with current devices. The board's two-button setup makes it easy to reset and enter bootloader mode. After experimenting, I realized MicroPython might not suit my preferences, but I appreciate that it's there for experimentation and other users. However, the Arduino IDE is fully compatible with the board. The wiki guide is simple to follow, and the board manager allows for swift setup. The board provides an ample number of GPIO pins for various projects. Its wired ethernet capability ensures a stable connection, which is ideal for certain projects. In summary, this board has been an excellent introduction to the RPI chip, opening up numerous possibilities for my projects. I think this is a great option for new and old users for microcontrollers as it has a lot to offer each. The only downside to note is there are no headers included for breadboarding but, that is also a plus in keeping it sleek and compact for your project and really just a personal preference.

Date: 2023/11/08Item:VINE DISCLAIMER:--------------------------------In the spirit of full disclosure, I received this product free as part of the Amazon Vine program. My methodology for Vine Program products is to give a more thorough -- often product-destructive -- review. If I like the product, I buy my own version of it, otherwise, it gets donated post-testing. I also may include my opinion on the product's value proposition to the market.REVIEW:--------------------------------Upon initial inspection this appears to be a quality board, the chips on it seems legit (no counterfeit or rebadging shenanigan's), and the soldering is better than the usual "mass produced with no quality control standards" you often find in some dev boards. I haven't done much with it besides turning it on and doing some sample scripts, but I think it'll serve my needs for an ethernet connected IoT sensor device -- and that's where the extra expense comes from, you're getting an RP2040 with an built-in RJ45 ethernet port built in, no daughter board necessary. Sure, you can get a 3 pack of RP2040's for ~$22 and some ethernet add-on boards for a few bucks each, but the savings probably won't beat the convenience of just being able to sit down and begin. With that said, if you don't need the ethernet port at all, there are better RP2040 alternatives. Otherwise, go for it. It's a small form-factor and functional part, with higher quality standards than a lot of other makers.END NOTE:--------------------------------And with all the reviews I do, if there's ever a problem with this product, I will edit (if able) to update this review. These will be denoted in an "UPDATES" section.

This ethernet-equipped RP2040 board is great. I've not worked with the RP2040 too much, but the price is right. I've been a long time user of Arduino. That the RP2040 are backed by Raspberry Pi speaks well for long term support, community ecosystem, and variety of form factors. In my limited use here, this works exactly as I expected it to. The inclusion of ethernet is huge for a lot of my projects, since I like to limit my WiFi usage as much as possible.
