After a long period of research, I decided on the Portkeys BM7 II and am delighted that it has now been added to my setup! The many connection options make it an important tool for my purposes. At 7 inches, it's the perfect size both as an onboard and as a director monitor, and with 2200 nits it's also impressive on day shoots. I am more than satisfied and can only recommend the support from Portkeys, they have always answered all my questions in advance quickly and in a very friendly manner.5 stars again and again :)

Have recently acquired the Portrays BM7 IIDS for my BMD Pyxis rig.Needed a 7" screen which is capable of showing a clear and bright image.Camera control works well and my personal highlight is the log based false colour mode which is showing exposure in stops.Build quality is super good but still light weight enough to not make the rig top heavy. The new CINENORM OS is a big big step forward to narrowing the gap to the industry standard brand. And just in case you need them, the customer service is fast and very helpful as well. (sunhood was missing in my box, but came just two days later)Overall this monitor offers a perfect price & value proposition and I am extremely happy and am confident that PortKeys will establish themselves in the market as a serious contender.

I am very impressed with the Portkeys BM7IIDS Monitor compared to my old Atomos Shinobi SDI. My take on it is as follows:Pros:- Brightness: This monitor is very bright with 2200 Nits, way brighter than my old Shinobi SDI- Screen Size: The larger screen is fantastic but has not made the monitor much bigger compared to the Shinobi due to the smaller bezels.- Screen Quality: the screen itself is excellent quality- Inputs and Outputs: It has multiple inputs and outputs and even croos-conversion of SDI and HDMI- Power Supply: I now get to use DC input instead of NP-F battery dummy- Weight: The weight of this monitor is very manageable for a 7 inch monitor- Design: Putting all the inputs and outputs at the back instead of the sides is very nice for rigging- Wireless Control: On the Sony FX3, wireless control is amazing with touch-tracking etc.- Start-up: Very fast start-up timeCons:- Operating System: Unfortunately, its operating system is somewhat clunky. However, Portkeys knows this issue hence they are working on a new OS soon to be available.- Wired Control: The wired control for the FX6 unfortunately doesn’t have touch tracking, which is a bit of a letdown.Overall, the Portkeys BM7IIDS is a fantastic monitor with excellent features and only a few minor drawbacks that are being addressed. I highly recommend it for anyone needing a bright, versatile on-camera monitor.

Pros:- Very sturdy feeling with its metal housing. The buttons are tactile and feel nice and responsive, even through gloves. There is a slight improvement over the HS7TII in that regard.- Very bright!- Lots of compatibility with its DC and 2p lemo port or even NP batteries- Cross conversion between HDMI & SDI- Wireless camera control (altough I have yet to try this)- It's both touchscreen and operatable with physical buttons PLUS the touchscreen can be turned off with the press-and-hold of a button. It also has four function buttons to be set as desired.- It's quite lightweight as well.- Integrated screengrabs with overlay! This feature excites me more than it should, but I'm very happy it's there. It's a bummer it takes a couple seconds to process, but that's managable.- The new Cinenorm OS firmware update is wonderful, bringing it a lot close to some high-end contendors, leaving behind the slighty clunky old software. It's snappier and quite professional looking. I also like how there are basically three different ways to access shortcuts now (physical buttons, the side pop-up menu and now the various custom pages one can access through a swipe. Plenty of various usability.Neutral:- Directly comparing it with the high-end models is not fair because they're still in a vastly higher price range, but just so you know: the sharpness is ever-so slightly smudgey when you're pixelpeeping. Instead of being able to define individual eyelash hairs on let's say a close-up shot of an actor, the hairs will be slightly blockey and not refined. This won't be a problem for most use-cases but focus pullers be aware. I assume this is because of the material used for the led-panel, not because of the resolution.- I noticed some pretty strong moiré too when faced with a wall with a light pattern in it. Have yet to explore this more, but be aware that moiré will show up pretty quick with this monitor.Cons:All of these cons are personal preference-issues I have with this model, therefore I didn't take away a star. I was also able to circumvent any issues I had by keeping an open mind and adapting.- No NP battery lock. If you're just using NP batteries this might not be a problem depending on the size of the battery, but if you want to use it with an adapter to power it with v-mount directly on the monitor it's a no-go. The adapter will end up falling out because it's not locked in place therefore letting the monitor abruptly lose power. I personally wanted to use it in this way that's why it's a con, but I solved it with a new v-mount battery plate that I attached to the back of the monitor. It still seems like a huge oversight though, especially considering that other Portkeys models do have this locking button integrated.- The lack of mounting threads. There are two 1/4" holes in total on the top and bottom, but none on the sides. This is a bit of an oversight IMO, but can be circumventable by using a cage. If you're planning on making your own sunhood you'll struggle to find a good way to attach it to the monitor.- There is no replaceable screen protector like in some of their other models (HS7TII, HS8). It seems they've turned away from this otherwise great feature that gives a sense of security in your investment. I ended up buying a 3d party screen protector for more peace of mind.I'll have to use it more in order to give a more in depth review and I haven't been able to take good on-set pictures yet, but will update once I do.

SDI Input and Output failed after only 6 months with very light use. Good quality panel, but sadly it's not up scratch. I've had a Atomos Shinobi and Sumo 19 for two years and both had heavy use in challenging environments, both are still going strong. This Portkeys had only studio use and it has failed. Avoid and go for Small HD or Atomos. I'll be contacting them for a refund.

I ordered the Portkey BM5WR for my Red Komodo and really liked the quality of the monitor and the option to control the camera as well. Overall the quality is great but the monitor just died out of nothing in the middle of a shoot 4 months after purchase.Since then it's been a hustle to say the least. At first i got no feedback at all, then sent in a requested video showing the issue, another 3 weeks went by till I got the message to send the monitor for further inspections to china, but just use only local shipping services.Overall, I have spent almost double the price of the monitor in renting other monitors while the monitor was not useable, just to continue my business. And now have to spent another little fortune to ship it insured to china for another couple of weeks. This is not acceptable. 100% regret buying this and not just went with smallHD right away. Could have gotten a 7inch smallhd for the money.
