And this Osprey Metron Backpack does not disappoint--6 Stars!Yes, it is a premium quality product, it is right there on top of most popular brands. Once package is opened, you'll know right there and then with the feel of the material, make, and craftsmanship of this backpack that you just got a really good one. It is also priced at a premium and I understand that not everyone will want this just for that, however, I can assure you that it is really good value for the money. The design of this bag is superb, not too fancy, it looks classy but at the same time highly functional too. The placements of pockets, storage compartments, zippers, latches, and straps are very well thought of. The back support bracing is very sturdy, comfortable, and provides a lot of ventilation. The zippers are YKK or YKK quality, that tells a lot, and they're not just the same kind of design zippers. Some just have a pull tab, some have loops, some are just paracords, and some don't even have any pull tab (because it wasn't designed to be opened or used for storage at all). Every aspect of this bag was really well planned.Of course, this bag ain't perfect, I just haven't found anything to nitpick yet. The main carrying straps as backpack are adjustable--height and tightness for support. It has both chest and waist strap belts too! The back support mesh was really well made too and will definitely let air in for good ventilation. You would think these would stretch out and sag but they feel sturdy too. The bag frame does indeed allow this bag to be set on the ground upright on its own. Inside the main compartment will have a space to store up to a 16" laptop and another for a pair of shoes. Underneath there is a compartment where a 'rain coat' for this bag is stored--not that I'll need it a lot since the whole bag itself is already highly water-resistant.The space can be adjusted to 34L by unzipping a section on the bag. The zippers can be slightly hidden if not in use. There is a hook for a helmet, some provisions to carry a small water bottle, and some other loops for keys and whatnots. I think the size is adequate to be a carry-on bag when flying. It really is suited as a mini travel bag for shorter trips. I can't say enough good things, I'm impressed and I'm glad I got this bag for myself.

I have been a longtime Osprey customer for daypack and hiking backpacks. I have some bags that are more than 15 years old and still look close to new.I use a rather spartan Patagonia Refugio 26L for my EDC bag and that has been the case for the past 5 years and it is unlikely to change, but I am glad that I waited to review the Metron because I have come to really like it.First off Osprey makes high quality, well designed, feature rich bags and the Metron is no different. The downside is that it is expensive for what I consider an EDC sized bag. But the price tag is backed by great quality, design, and features. The air suspension is much slimmer than previous designs while still providing the same comfort without eating into the storage space. It is also quickly adjustable for different heights and while I find the top stabilizer straps to probably be a bit too much this is a cycling first bag, which makes the extra hid padding ok as well.Put all together the bag is fairly rigid and can stand on its own whether it is in the expanded mode or not. When I initially got the bag I felt like this was all too much and would be overkill. However after using it for a few weeks for work, travel, and then at a soccer tournament where I walked a few miles every day with it and watched games with it on my back the suspension was awesome. It has multiple padded sleeves for a laptop and or tablet and numerous pockets for small items in the smaller front compartment. I am also a huge fan of stretch pockets and while there is no dedicated water bottle sleeve I do like the smaller stretch and zippered stretch pockets on the sides of the bag.The helmet attach takes a bit to get latched to my road bike helmet but once it’s on it stays surprisingly secure and doesn’t impact storage space. I didn’t think I’d like it but I much prefer it to my deuter cycling bags hammock style helmet securing. Another plus to the Metron is that the rain cover is removable if you don’t want to carry it where my deuter pack’s rain cover is not.Overall the biggest detractor is the price but if you’re looking for a quality bag with an air suspension and significant storage this should be on your short list.Il

I own many Osprey packs - from daily use work and city models to those designed for backcountry use and abuse. They are all worth every cent - this is no different. This one is meant to be a commuter bag not an outdoor hiking bag and the features are naturally designed to cater to that use case. To this end, the shoulder straps don’t have pockets on them nor does the waist belt. It’s not designed to hold a hydration bag or water bladder. There are very few lashing points aside from one at the bottom for a blinky light, the tiny ones at the top corners for the compression straps (keep reading), the helmet lid lock, or the handle. One thing is does share with hiking bags of this same storage / load capacity is load lifters on the shoulders and a highly adjustable harness system and back panel, making this usable for nearly any adult, regardless of height / torso length. All the adjustment straps - shoulders, load lifters, and waist - are sewn into loops at the end for easy pulling, the waist and chest buckles are easily felt with while wearing gloves. Its storage capacity is expandable from 26 to 34 liters by unzipping the middle zipper the goes ¾ of the way around the bag. This is the only zipper on the bag that’s not a looped pull. You’ll find two compression straps near the top tucked away in the expansion channel. These connect to the diagonal loops at the top corners of the bag near the ends of the handle (see my one picture - there’s plenty of others that do a good job of showing everything else). There’s a slip-in pocket below the lid lock helmet hanger made of slightly stretchy elastic material that’s great for stuffing a jacket in and another small zippered pocket hidden under the storm flap. The first zipper in from there has double paracord looped pulls that open about ½ way down the bag to expose a good sized compartment with several slip-in pockets sewn into the back wall - some stretchy, some not. There’s a key lanyard here. The next zipper is the expansion zip I already talked about. Then you’ll come to main compartment zip under another storm flap. In here you’ll find a double sleeved and lightly padded pocket for laptops, tablets, and maybe notebooks in what is essentially the center of the pack. If you load the pack right, it’s positioned to protect your electronics by having whatever is on either side act as a barrier. Here you’ll also find the cavernous main storage, and finally a zippered waterproof compartment for clothes or shoes against the back panel. Move to left side if you were wearing the pack and you’ll find a looped single pull short zipper - it gives access to a sizable stretchy side pocket. On the right you’ll find a tab giving access to a similar pocket on the other side that’s surprisingly secure even without the zipper - these would be your bottle pockets and good places for items you might want easy access to without having to open the entire bag. Move to bottom and you’ll find another zip hiding the last pocket - this is where your rain cover lives. The last feature is the internal “kickstand”. Don’t overlook or discount this - it’s excellent and something you may not realize you desperately needed in a bag until you’ve experienced it.All in all this is an excellent example of Osprey quality and well thought out approach to a purpose-built backpack. It’s not a hiking bag. It’s a commuter bag through and through.

This backpack is undeniably a premium product, positioned at the higher end of the market and rightfully competing with the offerings of the most reputable and sought-after brands. The exceptional quality is apparent from the moment you receive it. Upon unboxing, the tactile experience of the materials, the precision of the construction, and the overall attention to detail in the craftsmanship immediately convey that you have acquired a truly superior piece of equipment. While the price point may be a deterrent for some, as it represents a significant investment, I can confidently assert that it provides outstanding value for the money spent. The long-term durability and thoughtful design features justify the initial cost. The design of this backpack is a testament to the manufacturer's commitment to both aesthetics and functionality. It achieves a remarkable balance between a sophisticated and understated appearance and a highly practical and versatile layout. The bag exudes a sense of refined style without being overly ostentatious, making it suitable for a variety of settings, from professional environments to casual travel. The placement of each pocket, the configuration of the storage compartments, the type and orientation of the zippers, the design of the latches, and the arrangement of the straps have all been meticulously considered and executed. The back support system is particularly noteworthy. It's constructed with a robust frame and incorporates breathable mesh panels, providing exceptional comfort and promoting ample ventilation to prevent discomfort from prolonged wear. The quality of the zippers is immediately noticeable; they are YKK or of equivalent caliber, known for their reliability and smooth operation. Furthermore, the zipper design is not uniform but rather intentionally varied to suit the specific purpose of each compartment. Some zippers are equipped with convenient pull tabs for frequent access, others feature durable loops for added grip, some utilize paracord pulls for a more rugged aesthetic, and still others are discreetly concealed, designed primarily for less frequently accessed storage. This intentional variation underscores the meticulous planning that went into every aspect of this bag's design. While I have yet to identify any significant shortcomings or flaws in this backpack, its numerous strengths warrant further elaboration. The main carrying straps, which rest on the shoulders, are fully adjustable in both height and tightness, allowing for a personalized fit that optimizes comfort and load distribution. The inclusion of both chest and waist straps further enhances stability and ensures that the bag remains securely in place, even during vigorous activity or when carrying heavy loads. The back support mesh, as mentioned earlier, is exceptionally well-engineered, providing excellent airflow and preventing the build-up of heat and moisture against the wearer's back. Despite its lightweight construction, the mesh exhibits remarkable sturdiness and resilience, showing no signs of stretching out or sagging over time. The bag's internal frame is another valuable design feature, enabling it to stand upright on its own, which greatly simplifies the process of loading and unloading items. The main compartment offers ample space and includes dedicated sleeves for storing a laptop up to 16 inches in size and a separate compartment for carrying a pair of shoes, making it particularly well-suited for short trips. A discreetly located compartment at the bottom of the bag houses a built-in rain cover. While the bag itself is constructed from highly water-resistant materials, the rain cover provides an extra layer of protection in heavy downpours. The bag's capacity is expandable up to 34 liters by unzipping a specially designed expansion section, providing added flexibility for varying packing needs. The zippers are thoughtfully designed to be partially concealed when not in use, contributing to the bag's streamlined and elegant appearance. Additional features include a dedicated hook for attaching a helmet, convenient provisions for carrying a small water bottle, and an assortment of strategically placed loops for securing keys, small tools, or other essential items. The overall size and dimensions of the bag are carefully optimized to meet the requirements for carry-on luggage when traveling by air, making it an ideal choice for short-duration trips where checked baggage can be avoided. I cannot overstate my profound satisfaction with this backpack. I am consistently impressed by its exceptional quality, its intelligent and practical design, and its overall versatility. I am immensely pleased with my decision to purchase this bag, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a premium and reliable travel companion.

This is a great commuter pack with some awesome features. I've always been a huge fan of Osprey backpacks, and this is just as well made and designed as others I've used, with one minor exception, at least for me: the water bottle pocket. Unless I'm missing something, this pocket is nearly unusable. I guess it makes sense though, since most people don't want bulky items flapping around on while cycling. I just prefer external water bottle pockets and favor those large enough to hold a standard nalgene. The rest of the pack is amazing. The frame is just next level. I love that it stands on its own with the kickstand design. And, the magma color is so much cooler than I expected. It looks much better in person
