I've always used a 2' level with bubble. They work but you have to stop what you're doing every time you need to check level. Or you have to draw lines all over the wall that might be seen later. Finally I have a laser level and what a revelation. Just point it where you're working and it shows vertical and horizontal at the same time. The laser unit is about the size of a tape measure and it comes with a quick mount for the included tripod. The tripod is a bit small and only extends to about 3' height maximum. For some jobs you'll need to put this on a table or use a taller tripod. The laser unit uses a standard 1/4" 20 thread so it's widely compatible. The laser unit has either a fixed position or if you unlock the auto balance it can self correct to true level as long as the surface you have it on is within 4 degrees of being level. The top button cycles through 3 brightness levels though I found even the lowest to be easily visible. Perhaps outside you might need the brighter setting.Setup is really fast. You can get a level on your work area in literally 10 seconds and it just makes everything so easy. If you're putting up wallpaper you can get the seams vertical. If you need to hang a bunch of pictures or level them after mounting, just shoot the line on the wall.A carrying bag is included but it's really just for the tripod. The laser unit doesn't have a case but you could save the foam from the box as it's that plasticy stuff that doesn't break up into bits.Just a great tool and a big timesaver.

I got this because we just moved and are planning to paint so we haven’t hung anything up yet, however, when we start hanging things on the wall this is going to come in handy! It would also be great for applying wallpaper! It is very simple to use; to auto level slide the side switch and you can adjust the brightness by clicking the top button. Or you can use it in the fixed mode by holding the top button to turn on. The only thing with this mode is the instructions say to push and hold for 3 seconds to turn off but that hasn’t worked for me so I end up sliding the auto level switch to on and then off and it turns off that way which is not a big deal. The auto level feature only works on a surface with a 4 degree angle or less. So that being said, I thought you’d be able to angle it up on the tripod if you needed it up high, but if it’s more than a 4 degree tilt it will not auto level. You could always use the fixed mode but then you’d have to make sure it is level. This brings me to the tripod. It is very good quality and folds up very nicely but it doesn’t extend very tall. You could always put it on a table or surface of the sorts of you have a large enough flat surface. The tripod comes with a case and I wish it was just a tad longer so you could fit the level in there too and just keep it together. I got it to fit but not very well and if you picked it up hard it could easily fall out.

I'm really surprised with how solid of a product this is, particularly compared to my much more expensive Dewalt laser level. In some areas it actually surpasses that unit, though there are some places this could still be improved. The Good:- Build quality: The laser level itself is well made and sturdy. It should survive time on a typical job site pretty well, though i can't speak to how well it might handle impacts or falls- Laser: The laser has 3 brightness modes and is a bright green. This makes it much more usable than some others in brighter situations- Battery: I love the fact that this uses AA batteries instead of a proprietary rechargeable like most name brands. Massively understated positiveThe less good:- Tripod: The included tripod is a total waste of time. It's entirely plastic, super finicky, and hard to level out. Don't buy this expecting an even remotely usable tripod- Angle: I wish the level had the ability to true itself out when tilted at an angle. As it is, you'll need to prop it on something to use it at an appropriate elevation (or buy a worthwhile tripod). Other manufacturers have included magnets or other grips to aid with thisThe bottom-line: I really like this laser level, and it's really only let down by an awful included tripod and a lack of built-in mounting flexibility. With a bit of improvement there, this is easily a 5-star product, even more so at the price when reviewed ($59.99CDN -20%)... You really won't find better at this price.

Excellent value for the price range. The tripod isn't anything fancy, but it does the job to give a little extra height/support for the laser and comes with a bubble so you can be sure when the tripod is level too. Note that this is not a full height tripod, but rather approximately 2' max height. The head swivels well and is easy to adjust. The laser tool itself doesn't have a bubble window for you to self level, rather it does it itself, though it won't self level if the tool is wildly out of level...flashing to alert you that there's an issue. The Green beam has adjustable brightness and I was able to use it for a quick outdoor project without visibility issues.I like that I can either use it for standard horizontal/vertical levelling or change the settings to "free hand" where I want a straight line projected. This is so handy for projects where things are oriented at an angle.I can't speak to long term durability, as Ive only used it for a couple quick projects so far, but as long as it's not dropped onto a hard surface and stored appropriately I assume it will be a reliable tool. The laser tool itself has a standard plastic casing around it with raised black plastic framing the edges, which seems to assist in providing some shockproof protection.I wouldn't say this is contractor grade by any means but a nice, handy tool for the lay person to have for home DIY projects.

I've had a suction style wall laser level for a while, but you need to level it yourself. It was always good for a straight line and making sure that pictures were hung correctly, however it didn't let you line things up vertically. Enter this little bad boy here! I was so impressed by the green light and how bright it was, even during indoor use during full daylight. It was very easy to see on my walls. It has three brightness levels and has an auto level mode as well as a just constantly on mode. There are all handy! It is nice that it includes the tripod, but I wish it was taller. Luckily I have a tripod as home that I can use for this and it goes a lot higher, but I think it would have only costed slightly more to have a better tripod rather than just throw in a kinda meh one just to say it comes with one. But, it is a great level all around!
