I am getting into fly fishing for the first time this year and was looking for a decent but affordable setup. While looking I came across this combo. I haven't used it yet, but had a few buddies that have experience and they like the look and feel of it. I had an issue with the leader and they quickly handled it. I would highly recommend but from them and will be doing more business with them in the future. Looking into buying their bag next.

Shipping was fast, everything seems to be there. Won't be able to use until the weather warms up though.Update 12/6/2017: I am "hooked"! Love this beginner package. Have caught and released so many fish with this set up.

Purchased this fly rod and reel for my husband. He is very happy with it! Loved the case it came in. Nice set up. We are anxious to use it!

I bought this 5wt combo to fish summer trout in the Pere Marquette becaude my 8wt is a bit oversized. My father and a friend bought different 5wt combos in this price range, but IMO this combo wins. Much more lightweight, notably higher quality fly line, better reel and drag (metal). Added some 3x and was dropping hoppers right into grasslines and undercuts at distance when required. Also fished streamers on a sinking tip line which it handled well, and even moused at night. This rod is light for heaving mice patterns and not exactly reccomend, but I found success. Caught browns and bows - great way to break it in! Anyhow, yes id reccomend this combo over the others on Amazon in this price range. Also, the fly box is a nice perk, and has good vertical space as to not crush large dry flies.

I bought this for my son as his first rod and reel because I am tired of him borrowing my stuff. I have fly fished all my life and know good equipment from bad. Out of the box this seems to be very good equipment especially for the price. The reel is aluminum and has a good drag control and the rod seems to be excellent as well. Nice carrying case for the rod and reel and a nice little fly box (water proof). Can't wait for him to try it out next spring. Once he uses it I will come back and add more comments but for right now it seems as advertised and is living up to the other reviews I have seen.
