This notebook is made for collecting Goshuin (which are calligraphy seals from temples given to visitors as a record of your visit). I wish I had had this when I was traveling there! Because of this, the paper doesn't really allow a lot of bleeding, and the accordion-style allows you to see all the stamps side-by-side, like a journey in front of you.Because of this and the style of the notebook, this would look SO GREAT for keeping track of consecutive things. Imagine journaling in this beauty - you can see the literal passage of time before you and how things have changed. The paper feels really nice to write on. The lacquered cover is absolutely STUNNING. I am in AWE and I can't believe these are handmade and individually done. The gold contrasts gorgeously against the black. The note inside says to clean wth a damp cloth if needed.I do wish there was a way to hold the notebook together as it can fall open (and all the pages start displaying). Cleanup is a LITTLE difficult but it's worth the beauty and care of this gorgeous product. Even the packaging was careful and thoughtfully done.It IS pricey, but it's also handmade and special. So gorgeously made, beautiful to write in, and just special.

This little beauty makes me feel like I’m doing something poetic just by jotting down my grocery list. The Goshuin-cho isn’t your average notebook, it’s a small work of art disguised as stationery.Traditionally, goshuin-cho are used in Japan to collect goshuin, temple and shrine stamps received by visitors as a record of their spiritual journeys. Each stamp is hand done with ink and brush, often accompanied by calligraphy and sometimes a date, making the book a meaningful and personal travel log of sacred sites. It’s a centuries old tradition, and this book absolutely honors that heritage. That said, you don’t have to be temple hopping through Japan to appreciate it. This journal is so beautifully made, it works just as well for modern musings, poetry, affirmations, travel notes, art journaling, memory keeping, or even as a daily gratitude log. I’ve been using mine for journaling and sketching, and let’s just say my handwriting mysteriously improves when I’m writing on washi paper this pretty. The cover is striking in person, black and gold with delicate sakura blossoms, giving it that perfect blend of elegance and charm. The hardcover gives it a sturdy feel without being bulky, and it’s just the right size, compact enough to carry, but with enough heft to feel like it matters. It is just a bit bigger than your hand.Inside, the washi paper is thick, textured, and built to handle pens, brush markers, stamps, or anything else short of a Sharpie rampage. No bleeding, no ghosting, and the pages lay flat for easy writing or art making. And yes, it makes a fantastic gift. It’s unique, thoughtful, and feels personal without being overly specific. Great for writers, artists, travelers, stationery lovers, or that one friend who already owns six Moleskines and still wants something different.Verdict, Whether you’re following a spiritual path or just want to elevate your journaling experience, this goshuin-cho is a beautiful companion. Buy one for yourself, one for a gift, and maybe a third in case you “accidentally” keep both.

Very beautiful. As pictured. I wish it came with a leather band or something to keep it closed or a protective sheath for traveling with it.

This goshuincho is incredibly beautiful. The craftsmanship, attention to detail, even the packaging for delivery is exceptional. I got the black one and it is such a pretty thing. I am excited to use it on my upcoming trip.
