So I got this, hoping it will fit my Geo branded dune buggy the GX 125 to make a long story short. I got it a couple of years ago for my two kids who at the time were four and seven now or six and nine, the youngest couldn’t reach or ride it herself the oldest after the first few feet of driving was terrified and still is of it. This summer just passed the youngest, was finally tall enough to reach the pedals and after a mishap with a bucket of water in long grass that wasn’t seen being driven over and spilling most of its contents of water onto the exhaust, creating a huge cloud of steam, not in the burn you kind of sense, but in the it looked scary, and it scared her to the point where the two of them are refusing to drive it as it sits from the factory, it is far too small for my over 6 foot tall 300 pound frame and due to disability being able to reliably get in and out is impossible. I’ve managed to get in once and it took two people to help me out, but it’s rather niche item and I’ve come very close to finding a new home for it just nobody wants to pay what it’s actually worth which is still I’m taking a loss on it or they don’t have anything to trade that it would interest me so after sitting for this long, I’ve kinda decided that it’s time to do something about it so why not start by modifying it kind of a late winter early spring project and I’ll put an extended front porch as their referred to on the front which will just extend where the pedals and your feet go. I’ll raise the rack that has the dashboard onto it and that supports the top end of the steering column and either modify or remove completely the roll cage so that I can get in and out of it myself and then I started thinking well it’s never really been used since it’s been here. The carburetter needs to be rebuilt so got a new carburetter instead for what they sell for. I got an identical one as I already have to replace it and then I came across this. I’d already gotten a replacement cylinder not because I think it needs it, but I intend to put some serious mileage on this machine and put it through its pieces not abuse it by any means but I intend to use it and use it well so the last thing I need is for it to break down for absolutely any reason other than just simply running out of fuel and when I seen this was available that’s when I got rather excited because all of a sudden what they’re calling the 125 cc engine but it’s really closer to a 110 is gonna be pumped up to 140 and as it sits stock with the leak in the fuel line so it wasn’t getting proper fuel. The one time I wrote it. I managed to get the second gear and actually scared myself, which is not easy to do with these types of machines. It needs some supports, put in the floor to be able to support a full grown man of my stature, but the engine itself has more than enough capability as it sits so adding the big board kit is an whole new level, which I believe is going to prove to be incredibly fun for lack of a better or more mature way of explaining it. I have a feeling it’s going to be a riot to drive with my only concern being after really inspecting the big boar kit and comparing it to the stock spec replacement cylinder there is a dramatic difference in the cylinder sleeve wall thickness by a lot more than one would expect. I think it’s a 2 mm difference but it’s obviously enough that it makes a very noticeable at the drama Different in thickness and that will directly affect it’s cooling abilities long-term reliability will suffer a bit. I don’t know how much at this point. I know that things like the piston in the big bore actually has a Sarah coat finish on top. I’m assuming it’s a coat something of that nature it’s a coded top for on the combustion point to prevent buildup and what not it’s it got a lot of extra time and effort and thought put into it very obvious. Even a simple first glance like I said, I’m actually quite impressed with the build of it now visually it is a good bit different than the factory spec styled ones But Feeling that part of that difference is directly related to cooling for the most part. I mean, I can’t prove it. I haven’t. I haven’t really looked in that far yet, but I was kind of concerned that it would have some compatibility issues they kind of took a leap of faith with it With the mindset of if it doesn’t work for my application I’ll find another application for it to work for because it just sometimes a guy just gets a hankering to rebuild an engine, not even truly in the quest for more power, but just in the quest, for I don’t even know how to explain it not self-fulfilment but kind of I guess it’s like on the journey to Test one skills and it’s not even a test my skills it’s not the first and no even close to a scary engine to attempt this type of thing for I mean my background is an out of automotive service and repair and The twin is kind of where my passion sits, and where my hobbies kind of take cold so rebuilding the top end on this is gonna be no harder if not easier than rebuilding the cam chest in my Harley, but it’s just I haven’t did it top end and anything in a number of years I’d like to put some effort into this machine before I begin the modifications to the chassis itself that way, maybe it’ll appeal to somebody because I would like to see it go to an age-appropriate home that can enjoy it for what it is, but if I can’t find that, I may as well Make it work for what I want to do and get it as close as I possibly can time will tell. I have no idea when I’m going to be able to begin this project. I don’t even know what to call it other than a project but this quest a parent think whatever you wanna call it But I have no doubt as long as I didn’t miss calculate anything or dramatically miss some measurements that Would determine that it’s not compatible but as everything appears it’s cosmetically cast significantly different however, I don’t necessarily see any differences on the meeting surfaces and the fastener holes look like the locations for them so that is definitely promising. If there’s any issues I’ll most certainly update my review and Although it may take time as soon as I manage to either discover that it wasn’t actually a fit or that it was and have some news to report back regarding it performance. I will most certainly update it as soon as humanly possible once I have something to update with Can’t update without information so I intend to find out and go from there because it’s just gotta be more people than me who have looked at this kit and wondered to themselves will this fit my Baja or my whatever basically I’m specifically dealing with the Tao Tao and Gio brands 125CC 3+ reverse engines tho the dirtbike version without reverse to my understanding is simple as it has however, many speeds it has as opposed to 3+ one. I don’t know if it’s a three speed just like a Z 50 or if it works out to being like a for speed I don’t know how they did them, but I know that most of the dirt bikes I think some of the Baja‘s may have had a reverse or a version with reverse available, but regardless the top end to my understanding is the same so everything I’m talking about outside of certain clearance issues because of frame geometry that doesn’t apply, but as far as electrical and mechanical, all de parts are basically all the same and just adapted i’d love to know more I know sincerity, but I digress excellent value, regardless for a top end as well built as this, and I have everything included the only way they could’ve made. It better was two of size the piston rings in-house they’ve already got the piston slid in the bore. Why not do it as a ready to go top and where the piston is sitting in the cylinder with the rings, installed with the skirt out of the out of the cylinder board so that you can slide your wrist in is kinda a missed opportunity there, especially with the amount of care and level of detail purposely put into the things like the cylinder the crosshatching just the right depth just the right angle or the piston perfectly circle coated on top and I’m not just saying that I’m legitimately surprised, especially for the Price of the level of performance enhancing some things they talking about increase in potential efficiency here we’re not talking big marvels engineering we’re talking to get that extra 2% extra one percent so if it’s at the level of care in detail that we’re going for that extra 2% increase at most across four or five bonuses like the crosshatching mixed with the coat mixed with the nice sharp piston rings mixed with the beautifully finished wrist all of those things are older than a play on each other. Of course I’m not delusional but the amount in which it makes a difference in a engine of that little power, I don’t know if it would be noticeable, but then again, maybe it’s the situation of an engine of such a little power getting every last possible enhancement in order to get its maximum potential out of its modifications. I don’t know it was just kind of surprising to me in a very positive manner of course I don’t mean that in a sarcastic way at all I was just I was not expecting it to be as complete or as refined as it was giving this an unparallelled and unmatched level of value quality. I said my only concern would be long-term reliability and longevity, but that’s because of you Sulander wall thickness, and that stands true with any big bore kit that you’re not increasing the stroke. You’re increasing the the bore you can get displacement on a two ways a bigger hole or a longer throw or than a perfect world a little bit of both I can understand why we’re not doing a stroker type big boar that’s a whole different level of complexity but I think it would be awesome…. Anyways I’ve spent enough time gushing I’ll report back once I have something to report back
